How it works
You write in your browser, or in your own editor — Neovim, VS Code, Zed, Emacs, Helix, Vim or nano. On a new machine you copy one command from your project page, paste it into a terminal, and your documents are there with your editor open.
While you write, a small program on your machine keeps your documents in step with your storage. When you close your editor, it finishes its work and stops. It does not run in the background when you are not writing.
Where your writing lives
You choose, when you create a project:
- Your own Google Drive. ProjectWriter creates a folder and works only inside it. It cannot see anything else in your Drive — not your other files, not your photos, not your documents. That is enforced by Google, not by our promise.
- Storage we host. Nothing to set up. Your projects live with us.
Either way the files are ordinary Markdown. If you stop using ProjectWriter, you still have your writing, in a format anything can open.
What it does not do
- No version history. Saving overwrites. The previous version is gone.
- One device at a time. There is no live collaboration and no merging.
- No advertising. Not on the writing screen, not anywhere.
- We do not delete your work for being old.
Getting started
Start writing on the site without an account. When you want to keep what you have written, give us an email address and we will send you a link to sign in. There is no password.
